Celebrated on the Tuesday following U.S. Thanksgiving, and fueled by the power of social media and collaboration, GivingTuesday inspires millions of people across the globe to show up and give back to causes and issues that matter to them. The goal is to create a massive wave of generosity that lasts well beyond that day, and touches every person on the planet. GivingTuesday takes place on December 3, 2019 this year.
The Giving Tuesday project started in the U.S. in 2012 and has spread to over 100 nations across the world! > Learn more here
In 2015, #YorkCountySCGives was created and was the first officially recognized community campaign in the state of South Carolina by the #GivingTuesday team in New York. York County Gives is an initiative that partners local nonprofits, foundations, civic groups, businesses and governments to encourage generosity in our city.
The founding partners of #YorkCountySCGives represent nonprofit organizations, local government, civic-minded businesses and individuals interesting in making a local impact through #GivingTuesday.
How you can help during the COVID-19 crisis:
Continue to support local businesses and non-profit organizations as much as you can.
Contribute to local service organizations. With all of the shortages, community organizations serving our most vulnerabe citizens are having a hard time finding resources. Check the websites and social media sites of local organizations to learn of their needs, too! If you can drop off in-kind donations, those are much appreciated.
Donate blood. There is a critical shortage. Please, give the gift of life!
Check on your elderly family members and neighbors often.
If you have special certifications or skills, think about volunteering. Offer to help make calls to check on people.
Find ways to keep your staff, volunteers and people who serve connected.
Keep a positive mental attitude and share hope with everyone you can!
Like our Facebook page. As we hear of needs in the community or opportunities for service, we will post it there.
